A shortage of pre-launch reveals meant we were engulfed with Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player prices when the game went live.

It was difficult to know where to start.

We’re currently processing the player prices position by position, starting with the cheapest forwards in the game and those in the £6.0m-£7.0m bracket. This came in the wake of our ‘first impressions’ article.

We’ll be looking at value (last year’s points, this year’s prices) soon, too.

In this brief article, though, it’s more route one: the biggest risers and fallers.

Yet more thanks go to TopMarx, who has supplied us with the data to work from.

PRICE RISES

There were 116 players who rose in price for FPL 2025/26.

£2.0M RISES

Four players rose by a joint-high £2.0m: Morgan Rogers (£7.0m), Joao Pedro (£7.5m), Mohamed Salah (£14.5m) and Alexander Isak (£10.5m).

You can certainly understand that in the cases of record-busting Salah, top-scoring forward Isak and the grossly undervalued (last season) Rogers.

Pedro is an interesting one and you wonder how much his climb was due to the excellent start to his Chelsea career in the FIFA Club World Cup.

He’s never really been a prolific goalscorer: he’s scored just five non-penalty goals in each of the last two seasons. Given that he’ll surely cede spot-kick duties to Cole Palmer (£10.5m), he’ll have to buck the trend of previous seasons to merit a £7.5m price tag.

£1.5M RISES

Another dozen players climbed by £1.5m.

Most were unsurprising: Yoane Wissa (£7.5m), Chris Wood (£7.5m) and Matheus Cunha (£8.0m) were always going to rise after their free-scoring campaigns.

Probably the most eyebrow-raising are Enzo Fernandez (£6.5m), Kevin Schade (£7.0m) and Omar Marmoush (£8.5m).

With Enzo, it’s perhaps pre-emptive. With Romeo Lavia (£5.0m) and Reece James (£5.5m) (sort of) fit and increasingly the ones used alongside Moises Caicedo (£5.5m), Enzo may get more chances to play further forward and gatecrash the opposition box a bit more. It’s not as if he’s going to be a magnet for defensive contribution points: he would only have got six of those last season. Caicedo would have bagged 42, for context.

Schade was a bit of a Fantasy afterthought last season, thanks to Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo (£7.0m), but can he be Brentford’s talisman this year after the exit of one and the possible departure of the other?

It went under the radar that Schade himself delivered 15 attacking returns despite starting just 26 games. That’s the same number of goals and assists as £6.5m trio Ismaila Sarr, Kaoru Mitoma and Alex Iwobi banked, with Schade rising even beyond that group.

Marmoush, now a midfielder, did score seven goals in 14 starts last season but the competition is fiercer than ever at City. He pretty much featured only as Erling Haaland‘s (£14.0m) deputy in the Club World Cup, rather than out wide.

PRICE FALLS

A grand total of 72 players dropped in price this summer.

£1.5M DROPS

No one dropped by £2.0m so the biggest falls were the £1.5m losses suffered by Mykhailo Mudryk (£5.0m), Phil Foden (£8.0m) and Son Heung-min (£8.5m).

Mudryk is still provisionally suspended by the Football Association, so there’s no FPL interest there.

Son’s future is up in the air, meanwhile, with Thomas Frank cagey about the Korean. Son’s decline from £12.0m midfielder in 2022/23 to mid-price asset now mirrors his own career trajectory, and he’s very much a fading force at 33 even if he stays in north London.

Foden is the most enticing one here.

The England international endured a dip in levels last season. The player himself admitted that there were off-the-field mental struggles.

Perhaps this summer will serve as a big ‘reset’ – and the signs in the States were promising as he emerged from the Club World Cup as City’s joint-top goalscorer (three). His swagger was back and his long-lost knack of half-yards of space in the box returned.

And yet… he still only started one match out of four in the US. Even at a cut-price £8.0m, rotation concerns abound.

£1.0M DROPS

In terms of £1.0m drops, Kieran Trippier (£5.0m) catches the eye. While not the player he was, his points-per-start average of 4.4 was better than almost every other FPL defender last season. With Lewis Hall (£5.5m) working his way back from injury and Tino Livramento (£5.0m) having a delayed summer break thanks to England under-21 involvement, Trippier may well start the season at right-back.

A move to Manchester United would perhaps rekindle some FPL interest in Nicolas Jackson (£6.5m), especially a) after a price drop and b) factoring in the Cunha/Mbeumo/Fernandes supply line. He’s a sub-par finisher, let’s be honest, but has still averaged 18 attacking returns per season since joining Chelsea. He serves a suspension in Gameweek 1, of course.

Wolves’ Rodrigo Gomes (£4.5m) is now not just £1.0m cheaper but also a defender. Could he be the Rayan Ait-Nouri (£6.0m) replacement, having filled in for him last season?

Most of the other million-pound drops have game-time concerns hanging over them, including Ben White (£5.5m). Niclas Fullkrug (£6.0m) is a potential starter up front for West Ham United, however.

Kyle Walker (£4.5m), despite his fall, will still be too pricey for many at Burnley, who can offer £4.0m options elsewhere.

Seems I'm having to log back into the FPL site daily to access my team. (desktop on Chromebook).

Is there any way of staying logged in, or is this just a 'feature' of the new design?

Sorry I took so long to reply, I had to log back into this site, then it took me back to top of the page so I had to scroll back down to your comment. Partly why I’m using FPL app as annoying having to log in every time!

        Good one.

I remember some of the older Fantasy games used to have prizes for the best team names - don't know if that's still a thing.

I remember the 'money leagues', remember that? Massive about 10 years ago. Didn't care about points or prizes, just how much money you ended up with.

Probably why I take too many hits today (NO MORE over ahem 100 transfers last season. Yeah, tell me about it)

I’ve got Adingra of Sunderland in my team atm. I remember he was good at Brighton with inconsistent playing time. Does he start for Sunderland? Any thoughts? Rummaging through the £5.5m bargain bin

Him and Welbeck or Kudus/Ndiaye and Beto?

I think it's either one of kudus or ndiaye and a lot on kudus right now for 2 first good home games. But ndiaye is v good pick too. I'll monitor pre-season on which one to go for.

I think Cherki could be going under the radar a bit. If he can hold down a right wing or attacking 10 position at one of the most attack minded sides in the prem, at 6.5 he could be gold. Yes there’s settling in concerns but he has the stats to do well imo

Sorry, this got lost somewhere. So repost:

You know what I've always though would be a really neat and beneficial tool. That's never been done.

Yes, we have the season ticker and can look individually at who in your current team plays next. (But that takes time, and can be tricky)

But what about a one click flick through of who your entire team is up against next - it goes from next game right up until 38.

          You get what I mean?

It'd be golden. A complete gamechanger.

Looks decent. I'd be tempted at ait-nouri over cucu at the 6m def spot as will get a lot more attacking returns, but I do like cucu. Needs Isak imo, I'm not convinced by bowen, too expensive as a fwd over mid.

Yeah solid start that. I agree Bowen despite his good start might be a wait as a forward. Fulkrug could play as a 9 also and there are loads of 7.5 strikers to choose from. I don’t mind no Isak at the start personally. Pedro if he holds down that Chelsea spot is a shout

We don't really know yet until more pre-season games, but VDV will be more nailed. Udogie will get more attacking returns though, and is playing v high so far apparently. If it looks like udogie is nailed then he's in my team for sure.

            Areola (4.0)
            Ait-Nouri - Colwill - Udogie (Reinildo - Esteve)
            Salah - Wirtz - Palmer - Kudus - Reijnders
            Isak - Pedro (Kroupi)

I'm really not sure about Kelleher, he's a good gk but brentford could be in all sorts of trouble this season. New manager, losing mbuemo and probably wissa, plus captain and key mid. I wouldn't be surprised if they were in relegation battle. Kelleher seems very risky to me. West ham not great but good early fixtures and I can't see better 4.5 gk than areola.

Im going with verbruggen alongside kelleher for rotation, a bit pricier but i like the fixtures.

Sorry to be a pessamist but i really have no faith in WHM, worse than brentford IMO

Petrovic a good option if you dont like kelleher though, good fixtures for him

I love the sunderland GW1 for WHM, but i cant see any CS in the next 5

Going back to your original draft, i love udogie as a differential, and think palmer essential

No haaland is risky, but so is no salah (what i am doing)

Decent team. Isak and salah are essential imo. I'd prefer one 6m def so if one of them explodes you can jump on easily. If nailed Ait-nouri would be gold. Not sure on semenyo, rice or HO personally

Has anyone seen an analysis on which opponents are best for defenders to pick up defensive contribution points? I can see them causing me many benching dilemmas, as often I have a few 4.5 defs at the start of the season and play the one with the highest clean sheet chance each week... but is that correct now?

Let's say I own Konsa and Bogle. GW1 is LEE vs EVE and AVL vs NEW. Leeds have 30% clean sheet chance and Villa a 25% chance, so the obvious choice is Bogle. However, due to the harder fixture, perhaps this means Konsa has a 30% chance of 2 DC points, vs only a 10% for Bogle (made up percentages here). This means considering clean sheet potential and DC potential, Konsa is the better pick.

I think ultimately it makes it harder to make a decision on defender. In the past it was simple to pick the player with the best clean sheet chances, unless one of your defenders was significantly more attacking.

I think this was the idea. It does mean you can leave a defender in for the harder game without swapping and changing all the time, especially at cb.

Yeah I think DC potential has a roughly inverse probability to CS odds and makes starting decisions more complex. I haven't seen that kind of breakdown but I'm assuming we're looking for opponents who will have a lot of possession without much of clinical edge (so that your defender isn't losing a point for 2 GC)

Comparing CS odds and attacking potential was fairly simple, but calculating expected pts now isn't going to that easy. Planning rotation gets also much harder. Also seeing which players are the ones getting these DC points takes some time with new teams. However, I believe many are creating spreadsheets for them already. Since personally on holiday and +30 degrees C here, I leave this race for others.

Haha well said. Yes it certainly makes it more complex to work out mentally, and I think it might lead me to peek at the models or spreadsheets to make a decision.

But is Reijnders actually nailed on?

                        Who's better at 5.5?

First choice doesn't equal nailed, especially when talking about Pep. 7th attacker isn't a spot I want to spend my transfers on, so I'd rather avoid the headache.
5.5 bracket doesn't look great right now, someone will emerge as a value for money pick, but it's too early to tell.
Anderson could be good if you want to take advantage of the defensive contributions with the occasional attacking return being a bonus, or Adingra if you are looking for a more exciting choice.

From looking at city's squad I don't know if any non-def/gk is nailed apart from rodri and haaland, but I'm not a city expert. If it's reijnders v kovacic then reijnders will play most games I feel but all a guess right now. Will be interesting to see if foden gets back to being nailed as could be a bargain now at 8.0 if he gets his form back.

That’s why I’ve gone with Villa’s Malen instead. Attacking player with a good track record in the Bundesliga and national team. Villa has lost some competing players and Malen will now do a full pre-season.

Is anyone else worried about Chelsea's and City's involvement in the Club World Cup? It doesn't look like anyone's at least talking about it, but I find myself kind of avoiding both teams. Especially the combination of Pep-roulette and the summer tournament steers me away from City options very effectively.

Am I just overthinking it? I admit this is probably more or a problem later in the season than in the very beginning, but still.

I think it could be more of an early season issue than a later one, with the fatigue of CWC loosely comparable to playing Euros right at the tail end of the season, and then the relative lack of preparation with (from what I can see) only 1 friendly for City and 2 for Chelsea in the mid July - early August period when most sides are playing a lot more. I do think there's potential for a slow start for both, and it makes it much harder to assess the likelihood of players like Cherki, Reijnders, Pedro, etc being reliable starters.

A lot of people penciling in names like Reijnders and Pedro was more or less what prompted me to voice my concerns. Especially Reijnders felt very surprising to me (although in fairness he IS also the name that a lot of people seem to have questions about).

I’m really tempted by the benchboost GW1, FH GW2 option. Is it too risky if it goes wrong? Any better plans on how to use chips?

Think a bench of Areola, Ndaiye, Aina and 4.0 Leeds or Sunderland defender is worth it?

Few iffy selections to afford it though: Bowen/Soucek, Enzo/JPedro, Maddison/Solanke (with Kudus)

                          No Liverpool, Arsenal, Villa, Newcastle.

Speaking only about BB, I guess it depends on how it usually goes for you. For me personally, I think it's basically never gone "right". I try to aim it for a DGW or something, and they'll rotate for the second game, and I won't have my full bench playing anyway, or something like that.

Many times I've promised myself to just not stress about it cause it'll always go sideways and now there's TWO of them, so I'll definitely just going to fire it right away.

Yeh I also haven’t done well with it in the past, but playing it GW1 kind of gives it more weighting as you base your whole start to the season on it rather than just paying for a starting 11.

That is true, but I also tend to try to get a balanced team in the beginning so I don't mind that aspect too much either.

Got a feeling the West ham game will be a draw. So keeping away from attacking players from saying that looking at Wan Bissaka in defence.
But also looking into same as you BB followed by FH sounds ok at the moment, things can still change.

                              2 - 2 is a draw.

                            Why FH into gw2?

                            What's the thinking there.

Gwk1 BB team isn't suitable for Gwk 2 but ok after in gwk3.

Load up on Spurs, WH, Forrest, Everton players in GW1, but still get 3 Arsenal and probably Villa for GW2.
