With Fantasy Premier League (FPL) live for 2025/26, we’re welcoming back our team of guest writers for the new campaign.

Here, FPL General – who has three top 500 finishes to his name – shares his first draft and explains the reasons why he’ll be playing differently this season. There’s no Mohamed Salah (£14.5m). There’s no Erling Haaland (£14.0m), either…

Make sure you sign up for the new season to get all the Member-only articles, tools and features to make 2025/26 your best FPL campaign yet!

We are back!

It’s been a long summer without the escapism and fun/despair that FPL provides us with. As I type this, Gameweek 1 is three weeks away and I’m very excited for the new campaign. The late launch of the website was very welcome. The extended break gave the batteries the extra bit of charge they needed.

I’m feeling rejuvenated and ready to have a fun season, having not enjoyed the past couple as much as previous ones. The pressure that comes with being a content creator to achieve a good rank when you’re giving people tips/advice is something I’m keen to free myself from for 2025/26.

In short, I want to play differently this season. I want to enjoy watching games again; that’s where my love for FPL began over 20 years ago. I want to get back to my bread and butter, watching loads of games and making my FPL decisions/content off the back of that. That’s where I get the most enjoyment from.

My overall ranks have been consistent, with 11 top 50k finishes in the past 12 years, but I want to play with freedom this season. The shackles consequently need to come off.

I find myself suffering from FPL burnout when it gets to March/April time. It tends to get quite boring towards the end of a season, with managers having almost identical teams. Green and red arrows eventually come down to one or two positions and the captaincy call. When we share our teams on social media at the deadline, they all look the same nowadays. I want my team to look different to others.

Whether I finish top 10k or top one million, it makes no difference in the grand scheme of life. I’m alive, I’m healthy and I get to call my favourite hobby, my job. The tragic passing of Diogo Jota (RIP) really shook me. Life is precious and I want to stop stressing over a game. I’m going to play FPL with a smile on my face every weekend regardless of outcomes, just like Diogo did when he was on the pitch. I’m going to enjoy the Premier League for what it is, the best league in the world, and FPL for what it is, the best game in the world!

Now that the links from the Hot Topics tab (next to the scrolling comments in the left-hand column of the FFS Home Page) are working again, I am reposting this one since the previous attempt received so few replies.
The Opening Day League closed on Tuesday (with 623 team entering before the deadline), but here are some more mini-leagues for ELIGIBLE teams to enter:

Top 10k Any Season (league code wnvtph) is only for teams whose Previous Seasons record in their Gameweek History shows that they have finished the season in the overall top 10,000 at least once.
Multiple Top 10k Finishes (league code cqzki8) is for teams that have had two or more top 10,000 finishes.
Livinginapool’s Top 100 Any Season (league code 5xdeje) is only for teams that have had at least one top 100 finish.

The Fantasy Football Scout mini-league (league code ql9e6k) is open to all and offers prizes to the top ten at the end of the season and to the leader after Gameweek 3 (see Win £5,000 worth of prizes with Fantasy Football Scout in 2025/26! for details and conditions).
The Fantasy Football Scout Members mini-league is open to anyone with an FFS account, and its league code can be seen in the View League Codes link (below the scrolled comments) when logged in.
And if you want to participate in the FFS Head-to-Head Leagues this season, then make sure you are in FFS H2H LeagueEntry (league code s947au) at least till the H2H league allocations and fixtures have been confirmed.

Mini-league administrators are invited to add details of their own mini-leagues or competitions if they think they might be of interest to the FFS community.

See Community Article FFS Mini-Leagues and Community Competitions – the 2024/25 winners for a report on last season’s winners and the FFS Hall of Fame top ten. Additional Community articles through the season will report on the mini-league and community competition leaders after each Gameweek.

Our technical team is aware of this issue, and they will be added to the General Leagues soon.

With Isak to Liverpool potentially happening, could having 4 Liverpool players for GW1 bench boost be a viable strategy? The next transfer would have to be a Liverpool player out but after burning bench boost GW2 wildcard isn't so bad to shift all the money into the XI.

Virgil, Salah, Wirtz, Isak vs Bournemouth who have sold Huijsen and are selling Zabaryni.

      Hm.

No Salah or Haaland is bold, but I get the feeling it’s going to be the correct decision come next May.

Interesting. I was thinking Ben White, didn't he only miss matches through injury last season? I think White, Saliba, Gabriel and Timber is their first choice back 4. Timber has competition from Calafiori and has been injured quite a lot since he came to Arsenal, can see him getting more rest than White as a result. What do you think?

No idea, was wondering the same. I highly doubt Man U will pay what Villa want. What other clubs were interested? I think Onana is crocked though, so Man U need to do something, and even if he isn't crocked, its Onana so they still need to do something.

i highly doubt a 4m becomes a starter, I have seen people hoping for that so many times in the past, but it never happens. Great if it did though.

Really annoying on the new FPL site when using mobile on the transfers page. When you open a player profile and click on full profile, more often than not the x is not visible at the top right corner to move back to the player selection and you have to refresh the whole page and in turn reset to your original team. Just me?

I can see the X, using brave browser and iPhone. Though doesn’t surprise me that you’re having issues. Both FPL and FFS developers have seriously killed it, not in a good way!

I like those picks but hadn’t considered all of them together! Salah and Haaland team?

I’ve Salah, Palmer and Haaland and will likely stick to that to begin with. Really see Bruno being an incredible pick again this season with DC’s and some actual talent around him. Can’t fit them all though.

Jhon Arias from BBC Sport. One to watch out for although I fear for Wolves

Arias can play on the left and right, although he is not viewed as a direct replacement for Cunha.

During the Club World Cup, former Brazil playmaker Kaka described the stocky Arias as "an extremely dangerous player who can decide a match at any moment".

Arias showcased his trickery and relentless running in that competition, creating an unrivalled 18 chances in six games.
He won the man-of-the-match award three times and earned a place in the team of the tournament.

Arias switched position to play up front for the latter half of Fluminense's run to the semi-finals but still led the side overall for most touches per 90 minutes (68).

He was involved in 40 open-play moves that led to a shot, double that of any team-mate.
Arias also won possession more than any other Fluminense player.

He scored 47 goals in 229 games and his tally of 55 assists is the second highest of any Fluminense player this century.

The odds were cut in half on Isak to Utd this morning. I think it would make more sense for all parties than a Liverpool move. Liverpool have just signed Ekitike who presumably will have come under the guarantee of being first choice.

Newcastle fans will want to see players coming in as well and Man Utd have players they could offer as part of any deal. It probably won’t happen but it does kind of make sense for all involved

It doesn’t make sense for Isak really does it
Also, Newcastle selling their best player to a team below them in the league puts their champions league space more at risk

The strange thing is why he waited till now and didn’t make it clear he wanted to go earlier in the window before Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and city all spent serious money.

He’ll probably end up signing a new contract on big money at Newcastle

Probably because Gvardiol is seen as more likely to start more matches. Gvardiol can play at LCB and LB and has done both the last two seasons.

Ait-Nouri hasn't played many games under Guardiola so how he'll be utilised throughout a full season for Man City is an unknown

Gvardiol will still get forward in my opinion especially against the weaker opposition when City will have most of the possession. He will also likely benefit more from the defensive contributions points. I don’t have either currently but both will be very good options.

          Rotation threatens for all
Wouldn’t bother with any city defenders

So many premiums, so many choices!!!

So I seen that if defensive contributions were added last year, the top 10 or so highest scoring defenders are all center backs.

With that being said, why am I seeing a lot of teams with full backs? Wouldn’t it make sense to now switch to centre backs given the new info and changes?

We like defender goals and assists more than the possibility of getting 2 points for boring stuff 🙂

Not excluding a BB GW1. Here is my first draft for it, with an early WC in mind.

        Verbruggen(FUL), Areola(sun)
        Gusto(CRY), Aina(BRE), Udogie(BUR), DeCuyper(FUL), AWB(sun)
        Salah(BOU), Palmer(CRY), Wirtz(BOU), Rogers(NEW), Kudus(BUR)
        Pedro(CRY), Solanke(BUR), Piroe(EVE)

        What do you think?

Not bad! Double West Ham defence is risky, they were awful last year. Even against Sunderland I’d be concerned

Could go for Leeds new GK instead maybe. Cheers!

Yeah. 9.5. Less than 9 and we have ourselves a 14 player game

I've just compared the stats. It's wishful thinking that he matches Ekitike's price. At least 9m, maybe 9.5.
I think he'll be good value at that.

        Thoughts on this?

        Kelleher
        Vdv, De Cuyper, Cucurella
        Palmer, Saka, Wirtz, Rogers, Rutter
        Haaland, Pedro

        Darlow, Guehi, Esteve, 4.5

Where’s Salah? Have you seen his GW1 record? Bournemouth also just lost their best 2 defenders

          Which combo?
          A) sanchez and aina
          B) sels and colwill

          First to 3 wins it

I’m on this now. Core of the team hasn’t really changed as I’m not intending on using chips early. Going to WC into a BB and then use the AFCON transfers to spread the funds again before using WC into a BB in the second half of the season again for the doubles.

          Petrovic/Neto (whoever looks first choice)
          De Cuyper, Bogle, Udogie
          Salah, Palmer, Rogers, Kudus, Reijnders
          Haaland, Evanilson

          Kinsky, Truffert, Esteve, Chiwome

5th mid spot in uncertain on.

Triple Bournemouth? Do you know something we don’t ? Just lost 2 key defenders and about to lose Zab too. I’d avoid defensively to start with

Fair assessment but I think they have held most of their core team in an attacking sense, Kluivert, Semenyo, Evanilson etc. and Truffert is a very attacking and able Kerkez replacement. I like their fixtures and Iraola a lot. 3 is probably a bit much but the GK is still undecided for me. Thanks for the response

            Dear Fantasy Football Scout Team,

I’m writing as a long-time user and supporter of your platform to express my disappointment with the recent changes to site functionality and overall usability. Unfortunately, what was once a valuable and user-friendly resource has become increasingly frustrating to navigate.

Several key issues have significantly diminished the experience:
            • Core Features Hidden During Chat View: Essential tools like the fixture ticker, polls, dream team, and the latest comments widget are no longer accessible while on the chat screen. These were always useful for quick reference and seamless discussion—removing them from visibility makes the live experience feel fragmented and disconnected.
            • Fixture Ticker Behind Paywall: The fact that the ticker is no longer editable without a Premium membership is, frankly, ludicrous. This has always been a basic feature and a core part of the site’s appeal. Locking it behind a paywall feels like a step backwards and undermines the value proposition for regular users.
            • Site Navigation: Finding staple content like the set-piece takers list, team-by-team breakdowns, and other core data is now overly complicated. The interface feels cluttered and unintuitive, requiring far too many clicks to reach information that used to be instantly accessible.

These changes have made using the site not only laborious but, quite honestly, have taken a lot of the enjoyment out of engaging with Fantasy Football. Your platform was once a vital companion to the FPL experience, but its current state discourages interaction rather than supporting it.

I hope you’ll take this feedback on board and reconsider how your users—especially loyal, long-standing ones—access and experience the site moving forward.

            Best regards,
