As you may have spotted, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is updating for the 2025/26 season (as of June 26).

Don’t get too excited, however: the relaunch proper likely isn’t going to be imminent.

HOW LONG FROM THIS UPDATE TO FPL GOING LIVE?

Thanks to moderator RedLightning, we might have a rough idea when FPL will go live for 2025/26.

Last year’s ‘updating’ phase took ten days, lasting from Monday 24 June to Thursday 4 July.

After a short period of dormancy, we then had a week of price reveals. That went from Thursday 11 July to Thursday 18 July.

The announcement of the rule changes (eg rolling up to five transfers) came on Wednesday 17 July.

The game then launched on Thursday 18 July.

So, that was a period of 24 days from the initial update to FPL going live.

That would put us around Sunday 20 July this summer – although FPL tend to go live on a weekday, so perhaps on either side of that weekend is likelier.

Are people expecting any rule changes this season?

im always hopeful they might push deadline back to first KO of the GW

Oh and that they get rid of the AM chip that was totally not a Fantasy chip

"AM chip is not a Fantasy chip". Wild, Lol.

Love that chip, it give more variation to get points, rather than helplessly counting on maverick captain.

you arent backing a player, you are backing a team so its not fantasy as we know it.

I had slot manager and he got a red card and it didnt matter.

Also a chip being available for 3 gws means it is way overpowered. Tbh everything about it was wrong.

Tbh id ideally get rid of all chips but i know they are there to keep the casuals coming back/entertained.

Bruh, the game name is FPL not Fantasy Premier League Players (FPLP).

Players, managers and team all is in the league.

we dont pick teams, or managers usually so it is totally different

I dont like the chip, im not alone.

AM chip will either be scrapped entirely or be made available much earlier in the season

Indeed. Either give it from the start or not at all. Don't want any more mystery chip in the middle of season

From the start is unrealistic I think, the table has to be given time to take shape for the table bonus to be fair. For example, if Sunderland somehow nick a win on the opening day and then play Liverpool who failed to win their first game it's a bit farcical to give Arne Slot +10 for beating Sunderland.

Then comes the question how long do you leave it before the table is a true reflection? Earliest they'd introduce it would be after 10 GWs I think. From a purely logical standpoint 19 matches makes sense but is worse for the game as a whole

It could also be modified to reduce its table bonus component, or to operate over less than three Gameweeks..

I did very well out of the chip last year but wouldn't be sad to see it scrapped personally, the points felt a bit grubby. They majorly buffed its points potential so it was worthy of the big 'mystery chip' build up they gave it and so people who were lagging behind would engage with the game again.

FPL is about picking players, not teams, so the chip missed the mark for me.

Biggest in my wishlist is how to clarify someone as a forward. Football has moved on and the idea of a classic striker is outdated.

Many midfielders play a more forward role these days (yes I'm looking at you Mo) and aren't really a midfielder anymore

I'd like to see something included that reduces the scoring disparities between attacking players, and defenders and defensive mids. Could be ball recoveries, successful tackles, clearances etc, or something much simpler like 2 or 3 points for a CS at half time that isn't lost if a goal is conceded after the break, or 2 or 3 CS points per 45 minutes. There is nothing more frustrating in FPL than losing all your CS points, and bonus points to a late goal like the last minute one Jebbison scored again City in GW37 exspecially if you were doubled up like I was with Dias and Gvardiol.

      1. Punned It

I'm 100% behind you on this. Liverpool kept conceding just the one goal last season.

yes id like this too but i think it complicates a game that the organisers want to keep simple to maximise the number of players

there are other formats that offer this, dream team is really good if you are keen to try another format

Very good sense - I agree enturely about revisiting the disparities. I remember Kante from years ago - amazingly effective player in the real game but nobdoy bothered with him in FPL.

I'd like to think Mr Sutherns will have some input and make some sensible changes. For me the game has lost a certain simplicity and pureness which is of course like most crap things in life money driven.

Yeah, I'd like to see an end to inadvertent assists. You know, the one's where a player gets three points because the ball ricochets off his @rse from a hoofed clearance right into the path of the centre forward who knocks it into an empty net. Also, handball assists for penalties should be banned.

Hoping they put the deadline 12-24 hours before. Game is played globally and Euro players get a massive advantage because of the hour before.

The FIFA game has a 2 point "scouting bonus" for players under 5% owned who score 5+ points. That would help prevent everyone having more or less a template team.

yeah its a nice rule, as is the qualification bonus in the knock outs

Other formats are usually ahead with the innovation, but I guess they can afford to as they arent the official game

The big update has already started a couple of days later than last year.
The big changes have probably already been programmed before starting the update.
But they may still need time to test them, and that might affect how long it takes.
I expect the FPL launch to be sometime in the week after the final of the Club World Cup, which is on Sunday 13th July.
The new price reveals could begin any time from 7th July onwards, and the launch could be sometime in the week beginning 14th July.
I don't think they will want to launch any later than that, because Gameweek 1 starts on 15th August.

Agreed. If they must have it then making it available for just one week is a suggestion.

I like the idea someone mentioned about having some sort of bonus attached to players that are owned by 5% or less players. That could really drum up some differentials.

there are loads of alternative options for chips that would work far better

I do really like the club world cup one where you get a bonus if you have a player that is less than 5% owned who scores more than 4 pts but there is also 12th man and max cap that work really well

I really hope that they improve the pricing so that the difference won't be 0.5. That is far too much early in the season. Smaller differences would increase the pool of players immediately from the start.

I mean, having transfers every week kills the game. Removes any skill whatsoever in identifying gems nobody has. Find a gem, everyone has them the next week. But that's a feature that will always remain as I imagine it retains maximum engagement

I know most seem unhappy at how "complicated" the Asst Manager Chip is - surely that's coz everyone took time to get used to it. Id hope it stays "as is" for next season - available from GW 24 or whatever it was and everyone can properly plan for it. If they wish to tweak the points slightly, fair enough but i think it was a great initiative.

The scoring for Penalties might change - maybe a 2 or 3 points for each penalty scored (regardless of position) and a -3 for Penalty missed. If penalty taker WON the penalty, leave it at 4,5 or 6 points as normal.

      1. Funkyav
        • 16 Years

there should be points for winning a penalty regardless of whether it is scored or not. Winning and taking the pen should result in double returns.

But when a penalty scored, it is a goal so should remain the same points imo

Yeah - maybe 2 points for "winning a penalty" regardless of the outcome. Maybe also a -2 for "conceding a penalty"?

I'd like to see more formations available, so you could fill your 15 with as many players as you like in any position.
Flat back 7 with 3 sweepers? Go for it, Mr Pulis!
      2-3-5? Absolutely, Mr Ardiles!
