With the new Defensive Contribution (DC) points, extra assist points and bonus points tweaks, you may be wondering how this would have affected the overall Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points totals in 2024/25.

Wonder no more! The talent that is TopMarx (give that man a pay rise) has done all the legwork.

He’s recalculated the FPL points scores of every single player who featured in the Premier League last season, from the mightiest Mohamed Salah (ยฃ14.5m) to the lowliest Ben Godfrey.

Not only that, this new interactive points table gives you a breakdown of:

  • Defensive contribution (DC) points
  • Old/new bonus points totals
  • Old/new overall FPL points totals*
  • The +/- difference in points
  • Each player’s new price for 2025/26
  • The value (points per million/ppm) based on those new prices

*Additional assists – there would have been 41 in all – are factored into these new overall points totals.

Members of Fantasy Football Scout can see the revised totals of every single player via the link below – but we’ll do a bit of a preview in this article too.

REVISED: TOP 10 FPL POINTS SCORERS

Here’s how the recalculated overall top 10 looks…

Bruno Fernandes (ยฃ9.0m) is the biggest beneficiary here, despite losing out slightly in the bonus stakes. It’s his defensive contributions (DC) that really stand out: he’d have gained 22 points from these in 2024/25.

He’s the only new entry into the top 10 compared to last season’s original points tallies. Erling Haaland (ยฃ14.0m) is the man to drop out.

No one in the game, not just the top 10 but also overall, would have been worse off than Chris Wood (ยฃ7.5m) and Ollie Watkins (ยฃ9.0m) under the new rules. Still, -6 points is a relatively insignificant drop and they remain in the top 10.

TOP FIVE DEFENDERS

Lurking just outside the top 10 overall is Nikola Milenkovic (ยฃ5.5m). He’d have benefitted from a whopping 34 extra points last season, mostly through DC.

He would have finished as the top-scoring defender, with Murillo (ยฃ5.5m) in second. Murillo outdid his centre-half partner in terms of defensive contributions.

Milenkovic would also have scored more points than Haaland (179 v 178) under the new scoring system!

TOP 10 BIGGEST RISERS

In terms of who benefitted most from the changes last season, Milenkovic is again just outside the top 10.

James Tarkowski (ยฃ5.5m) is the DC poster boy. In fact, he would have risen from joint-26th in the defenders’ points table to eighth.

Moises Caicedo (ยฃ5.5m), meanwhile, would have risen from 58th in the midfielders’ standings to 28th.

Has anyone worked out what Rodri’s points total would have been for 23/24?

Finished on 159 points before the new defensive contributions…

Obviously this depends on him being fit but might be being slept on?

    1. Good question sir

He didn't make the list of "Top players for defensive contribution points in the last four seasons" (https://www.premierleague.com/en/news/4362005), but the cut off for that was 42 points, some examples included below for you though....

Player Season Starts % starts with DC DC pts
      Rice --- 22/23 ----- 36 --------- 86.1% ----------- 62
      Rice --- 21/22 ----- 35 --------- 77.1% ----------- 54
      Rodri -- 21/22 ----- 33 -------- 69.7% ----------- 46
      Rodri -- 22/23 ----- 34 -------- 64.7% ----------- 44
      Caicedo 24/25 ---- 38 -------- 55.7% ----------- 42

Nul points. Surprisingly, the top performers for Spurs were Ben Davies (10) & Danso (8)

Still more than Danso & only 2 fewer than Davies though. But I guess they were starting in the full-on injury-crisis phase so maybe they had to soak up a lot more pressure? Or do you think playing a higher line when VDV was fit might have been a contributing factor?

worth noting that the vast majority of Defensive Contributions for defenders come from Clearances (see https://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/player-stats/defenders/defending/) which, looking at the data, is not really a VVD strength. His best metric is Recoveries, which makes sense given his playing style and speed, nearly twice as many Recoveries as Clearances last season. But of course, Recoveries only count for midfielders

It means foder and foder on the bench.

    No BB gw1.

It means sacrificing Arsenal defense but looks decent enough if their respective form rolls into the new season.

Will Forest struggle offensively this season, but still be solid enough to compete?

I was thinking about getting membership again, but was shocked to find it is now £48 - £60 pa ๐Ÿ˜ฏ . Last time I was a member, I think it was about £12. It maybe worth it to stato’s, but I only really used the ticker, and I don’t think they had members only articles in those days. It was the members articles that made me consider it again, but no way is it worth it to me. Maybe you could have a cheaper, part membership option, that allows access to members articles, but not the tools?

    1. Blimey! I guess the superstar pro pundits us mere mortals couldn't live without don't come cheap!

That’s £47.88 and has to be paid in a lump upfront. It’s £4.99 pm if you want to pay monthly.

      2. Zenith UK
        • 8 Years
        3 days, 22 hours ago

£3.98 a month they're saying with "2 months free (save 20% on monthly!)" but £3.98 x 2 = £47.76... To sign up for that deal it costs £47.70, so a 6p difference! Where's the two free months?? Also, we've had a week worth on content and the season ends 24 May, so what am I paying for in June? No FPL content to be consumed then as it's off-season. So one of those "free" month's is pointless anyway.

The 20% saving is on the assumption that you pay £4.99 monthly for 12 months

For this to be customer-friendly, any new features you are selling need to be in the production environment before pre-season, so your loyal users can give them a whirl and make an informed decision. Otherwise, it's a shot in the dark when renewing your subscription, and that has not gone well in the past.

Just saying this as a generality. I haven't looked at what FFS is selling this year.

    Early aggressive plan:

    Verbruggen -- Areola
Van Dijk -- De Cuyper -- James -- Udogie -- Van De Ven
    Salah -- Wirtz -- Saka -- Martinelli -- Enzo
    J.Pedro -- Welbeck -- Beto

    GW1: BB
    GW2: VVD > Gabriel
    GW3: Free Hit
    *Transfer window closes*
    GW4: Wildcard

Enables a complete re-evaluation and gives enough time to see which of the new signings (i.e. Frimpong, Kerkez, Kudus, Cherki Ait-Nouri... possibly Gyokeres) are settled in and starting every week.
Not too worried about the early wildcard with so many transfers being rolled over, plus the extra 5 before AFCON.

    Sels
    Virgil, VDV, AWB

Plan would be to rotate: VDV, AWB, Strand Larsen, and De Cuyper depending on fixtures.

Highly, highly likely to start every week with Estupinan off to Milan.

May well be playing as a LWB rather than LB.

Likely to be on set pieces.

Good record at his previous club for attacking returns.

Estu is gone and De Cuyper is likely the first choice LB. If he is great, if not, so many 4.5 to choose from. Just a place holder for now I assume for most teams.

Had great attacking numbers prior to Brighton but not sure if that will translate to EPL.

The one game I've seen of him, Villa (H) in UCL last season, he was fantastic. Think he was on pens for Bruges too. But I don't know if he's actually going to be a reliable starter. Apparently Az is hyping him but then he did the same for Barco last year so...

I do think Brighton could be a bit better at the back this year now that they don't have to play Dunk/Webster anymore. Keeping an eye on Coppola as potentially strong for DC pts / set piece threat

Brugge fan here, he was excellent for us and had no trouble upping his level in the CL against proper opposition. Quick, agile and very goal focused, hence his great stats. Very reliable penalty taker, he took 5 or 6 for us last season and scored them all.

Hinchcliffe is still there and can play LB, and did often last season

My first crack at a draft. Tried to capture the premiums in attack.

    Kelleher
    Udogie, De Cuyper, Wan Bissaka
    Salah, Palmer, Kudus, Tonali, Reijnders
    Haaland, Bowen

Darlow, Bogle, Esteve/Reinaldo, Kroupi .5 itb

The more I look at Bowen the less I like him. Very tough run of fixtures after the Sunderland game.

        Are they?

SUN (A) - good fixture but won't be easy going there in GW1
        CHE (H) - tough
        NFO (A) - tough
TOT (H) - good fixture last season but might not be now with Frank in charge
        CRY (H) - tough
        eve (A) - tough
        ARS (H) - tough

One good fixture in the first seven.

Although I like Bowen, he was playing OOP a lot last season, plus he'll lose a goal point now he's classed as a forward.

Also, with those fixtures, you get the feeling that if he blanks against Sunderland, the knee-jerkers will sell him by GW 2.

Does anyone know if there is easily accessible data on which specific games players picked up the DC points in?

I'm wondering if they'll tend to come more often as a "consolation prize" in tough games where players don't keep clean sheets but put in battling performances, or as "turbo bonus" on what would already be a high scoring week with a CS + bonus.

I'm sure it's a mix, but if there is a pattern skewing one way or another it'll have quite an impact on how we play the fixtures. If it's more the former then there is less of an incentive to play the fixtures - good defensive players have routes to points now across all fixtures: a "set and forget" strategy with a cheap bench might be the way.

Is there a table with the actual DC points on it in the members area? I could only see individual things e.g. tackles, blocks etc. But it might be that the table isn't working properly on mobile...

Jonny, can you see the 'real' DC data. Mine shows Bednarek as the best contributor with a score of 40. I have no sign of other players - is this a me problem? ๐Ÿ˜€

hmmm. I followed the instructions, double checking to make sure. I have a visual of only 70 players, from varying teams. in DC filter Bednerak is top on 40. Definitely something not right there. No filters on regarding teams either, as I have players showing from 18 teams (filter is for all 20 teams). Its a list of really average players too. ๐Ÿ˜€

I cant see any VVD, Gabriel, Gvardiol type players at all.

Hopefully support come back to me as I think this particular data set is really important this season.

Hmm range is set to "all matches", right? If you've been using e.g. specific GW range the last time you looked up some tables it does stay on until reset.

There are a lot of average players up there but VVD should be near the top

Yup, All filters are open, I have a pool of 70 players - regardless of the data request. Thats the issue I am having, the pool is too small and I cannot see ALL players for some reason.

Neil, this is perfect timing. I have just emailed support. My data for this exact area is showing as outdated. I have Bednarek, Faes and O'Shea top of the DC charts with no filters on accept the sort by DC column. And yes, I have it as 2024/2025 season of course.

Im not sure whats going on but I shouldnt be seeing any Leicester or Ipswich players in that data set.

Is this a common problem. You'll see I've been in FFS community for a long time, so I would hope i'm not just being clumsy.

It's crazy that the FPL site doesn't give us goal contributions from last season. Instead we have to pay sites like these £40 to get the information we need to play the game.

Welcome to the Paywall generation. I'm not upset about the FFS membership, I see these guys as the pioneers that all other sites have been born from. I will not be giving a penny elsewhere. Most of the information is regurgitated but content creators looking for clicks anyway.

If you mean goals and assists then it's there on each players history. Otherwise you could use fbref or similar stats sites for most other info.
But you know, why search for it? Easier to complain.

        1. Moon Dog
            3 days, 21 hours ago

I mean defensive contributions obviously. And fbref doesn't have it. It's specific to this game.

They don't spoonfeed all the info. Would be less traffic on the forums in that case and less appealing for FFS sponsors.

            1. "We have to pay sites like this... to play the game". Jeez, no you do not. Football is not just a set of data points.
            2. What could you possibly be looking for that FbRef does not provide you with? It even shows me in which 1/3 of the pitch e.g. Murillo is making tackles in each specific game.
            https://fbref.com/en/players/1704b0b8/matchlogs/2024-2025/Murillo-Match-Logs
            3. The FPL site is unusable this year, I wouldn't want to use it to view data even if it did have it.

I just checked out the Arsenal player stats Vs AC Milan. I don't think any of them would have scored DC bonus even if they had played 90 mins instead of the 66 mins. Interestingly, it looks like White had the more defensive involvement, even with his usual advanced positioning, rather than the CBs.

It's fun when you think you've discovered potential in a 4m defender, a 4.5 m forward or a player OOP from last season because some if his teammates were sold. You've spotted on Transfermarkt that they were assist gold in some obscure league. More often than not they won't be nailed on but the thrill of the hunt was brief but great. The old AI paralysis by analysis is boring and more boring season by season. It ain't fun reading about player's FPL potential rather than their footballing abilities.

New design everywhere, new rules especially about DC. Things are getting far too complicated to handle with gut feeling only, I have a feeling of needing spreadsheets if I try to calculate rotating defenders vs premiums, DC points between players and expected points vs different teams and so on. This just doesn't feel like doable as brain exercise anymore. I feel like needing MS Excel and a lot of spreadsheets at minimum.

Bowens positional change is not accounted for here, so he should have -13 for goals and -8 for clean sheets which makes his total points change -16 not +5.
