THIS ROUND-UP HAS BEEN SUPERSEDED BY FRIDAY’S LIVE TEAM NEWS ARTICLE – CLICK HERE FOR THE LATEST GAMEWEEK 5 TEAM NEWS

Our weekly early team news summary rounds up all the latest Gameweek 5 injury news ahead of the pre-match press conferences.

ARSENAL

Bukayo Saka looks set to remain out with a hamstring injury, with Mikel Arteta saying earlier this week that the winger has “still quite a lot of things to go through” before he returns.

Kai Havertz (knee) and Gabriel Jesus (knee) are also still sidelined.

Ben White (unspecified) and Martin Odegaard (shoulder) sat out Tuesday’s win over Athletic Club, the latter having suffered a recurrence of his old injury in Gameweek 4. White was said to be “okay” last Friday but hasn’t featured since.

William Saliba (ankle) returned to the matchday squad in midweek.

Viktor Gyokeres, who was bloodied in the San Mames, and Mikel Merino also seem to be okay despite suffering head injuries.

ASTON VILLA

Youri Tielemans picked up a calf injury last weekend and sat out the midweek cup tie with Brentford. Unai Emery thinks he’ll be back in 1-2 weeks.

Ross Barkley (personal), Andres Garcia (unknown) and Amadou Onana (hamstring) all remained out on Tuesday but Boubacar Kamara (hamstring) made a return to action in the clash with the Bees.

Victor Lindelรถf sat out the game in west London with a “small injury”.

BOURNEMOUTH

Bafode Diakite (soreness) and Ryan Christie (knock) both missed the Gameweek 4 win over Brighton and Hove Albion, with Andoni Iraola more confident of the latter’s recovery for the Newcastle United game.

Adam Smith (hamstring) and Enes Unal (knee) remain out.

BRENTFORD

Gustavo Nunes (hamstring) was earmarked to rejoin training this week, while Paris Maghoma (hamstring) is already with the squad.

Tuesday’s cup clash with Aston Villa came too soon for both players.

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

Reports suggest Maxim De Cuyper has escaped serious injury despite his collision with the advertising hoardings in Gameweek 4. He remains a doubt for the weekend, however, and wasn’t spotted in the midweek training gallery.

Mats Wieffer (knee), who has missed the last two games, also wasn’t sighted.

Jack Hinshelwood (ankle) is facing a spell on the sidelines with the injury he picked up at Bournemouth, meanwhile.

Adam Webster (knee) and Solly March (knee) remain out, too.

Diego Gomez (illness) could return, having trained this week.

The Brighton boss said last week that young Greek attacker Charalampos Kostoulas is โ€œstill not thereโ€ in terms of Premier League-readiness.

BURNLEY

Lesley Ugochukwu serves a one-match ban after being sent off for two bookable offences in Gameweek 4.

Zeki Amdouni (knee) is still on the sidelines for the Clarets, while Jordan Beyer (hamstring) and Conor Roberts (knee) are unlikely to be ready to return despite stepping up their rehab on the grass.

Jacon Bruun Larsen could be back, however. Scott Parker didn’t risk him against Liverpool because of a knock to his heel.

CHELSEA

Enzo Maresca thinks that Cole Palmer is fine, despite the England international appearing to experience groin discomfort in a 90-minute run-out against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

“Cole, I think he’s okay. I asked him at the end, he said that he’s okay.” – Enzo Maresca, speaking after full-time on Wednesday

Estevao came off the bench in Germany, having missed last weekend’s game due to illness.

Elsewhere, Levi Colwill (knee), Dario Essugo (thigh) and Liam Delap (hamstring) are out for the medium to long term. Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended, too.

Benoit Badiashile and Romeo Lavia returned to training over the international break but didn’t feature in Gameweek 4 or in the defeat in Munich.

CRYSTAL PALACE

Ismaila Sarr (muscle), Chadi Riad (knee) and Cheick Doucoure (knee) are still out, with the former aiming for a Gameweek 6 return.

Eddie Nketiah (hamstring) and Adam Wharton (muscle) “maybe have a chance” for this weekend.

EVERTON

We wait to hear from David Moyes on Vitalii Mykolenko (unspecified), who missed the draw with Aston Villa despite being described as “around it” ahead of that game.

Jarrad Branthwaite (hamstring) is expected to remain out.

FULHAM

So far as we’re aware, the Cottagers have no fitness concerns for the clash with Brentford.

LEEDS UNITED

Lucas Perri (quad) is expected to still be sidelined in Gameweek 5.

Daniel James could be out, too, after taking a “hit into his body” in the last-gasp loss to Fulham. He himself had come on as a substitute just 10 minutes earlier.

The fact that Joel Piroe (calf) only had a “big bruise” before missing out in Gameweek 4 suggests he could be in contention to return this week.

LIVERPOOL

Alexander Isak got his first Liverpool minutes in the midweek victory over Atletico Madrid but Arne Slot said after full-time that more managed game-time awaits the Swedish striker in the Merseyside derby.

“A good start, only 60 minutes and now we have to build him up from here. But I can tell you he is not going to play 90 again on Saturday.” – Arne Slot on Alexander Isak

On the injury front, Curtis Jones (unspecified issue) was still “not fit” for Wednesday’s win.

Stefan Bajcetic (hamstring) has been out for months but is back on the grass.

MANCHESTER CITY

Omar Marmoush (knee), Rayan Ait-Nouri (ankle), Mateo Kovacic (Achilles) and Rayan Cherki (thigh) will all miss Thursday’s clash with Napoli. That game comes three days before City take on Arsenal in Gameweek 5.

โ€œKova is coming back soon. The squad is really good, just now we have a problem already with just 16 players, we need them back. Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, John [Stones] – when everyone is back we can rotate and the people on the bench make a good impact on the game. The fatigue will come soon and we need to make everyone involved.” – Pep Guardiola, speaking on Wednesday

John Stones (muscle) returned to training in midweek ahead of City’s Champions League opener.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Updates are awaited on Matheus Cunha (hamstring), Mason Mount (unknown) and Diogo Dalot (muscle), who all missed the Manchester derby.

The social media suggestions are that Cunha is training lightly but is expected to miss Gameweek 5.

Lisandro Martinez (knee) was pictured back jogging on Wednesday but after so long out, the Chelsea game surely comes too soon for him.

NEWCASTLE UNITED

Eddie Howe confirmed the recovery timeline for Yoane Wissa (knee) in Wednesday’s pre-match press conference.

“Yoane will, we hope, be back after the next international break. So, that’s the plan. Off the top of my head, is it Brighton, I think, the first game? So, that can always change and it’s always flexible, but I think that’s what I’ve been told.” – Eddie Howe

The Magpies will also be without Jacob Ramsey (ankle) until Gameweek 8, too.

Anthony Gordon, available in the Champions League, serves the final match of his domestic suspension on Sunday.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Ola Aina (hamstring) is out for around three months, while Nicolas Dominguez (knee) is still sidelined, too.

Loanee Oleksandr Zinchenko is at least available: he couldn’t feature last weekend because Forest were facing his parent club.

Murillo (knock) could be fit, too. While he missed the loss to Swansea City on Wednesday, he was “progressing well” and aiming to be back for Gameweek 5.

SUNDERLAND

Romaine Mundle (hamstring), Dennis Cirkin (wrist) and Leo Hjelde (Achilles) remain out.

Dan Ballard (groin), Aji Alese (shoulder) and Luke Oโ€™Nien (shoulder) could be back for the Aston Villa game, however.

Regis Le Bris was hopeful that the injury that kept Enzo Le Fee out of Gameweek 4 wasn’t too serious.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Dominic Solanke (ankle) wasnโ€™t fit enough to return for Spurs’ match against Villarreal in midweek.

Radu Dragusin (knee), James Maddison (knee) and Dejan Kulusevski (knee) are out longer term, too.

Yves Bissouma (unspecified issue) hasn’t featured since before the September internationals but he is reportedly surplus to requirements anyway.

WEST HAM UNITED

Tomas Soucek begins a three-match ban following his sending off in Gameweek 4.

The Hammers are, as far as we know, injury-free.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS

Vitor Pereira said after the defeat to Newcastle United last weekend that he would take it “day by day” with Jorgen Strand Larsen (Achilles). The striker hadn’t trained before Gameweek 4 and missed out.

Ki-Jana Hoever has ongoing knee discomfort, so it remains to be seen if he’s fit.

Jose Sa should be back, at least, as it was only illness that kept him out of the trip to Tyneside.

If you had to pick one team to win this weekend, who would it be?

I can’t pick Newcastle as I had them last week.

Pool, they seem to squeeze out a victory no matter how the match has gone so far.

It’s a derby, though, which worries me.

I’m tempted to go for Sunderland just to get them out of the way, but no doubt this will be the weekend Watkins gets a haul!

        To win?

        Liverpool or possibly Fulham.

The under pressure managers might get a score draw at West Ham and Old Trafford.

Wirtz looked very good last night and could have easily had at least 2 assists. Is it too early to get him back on, or is he just not a good FPL asset?!

I don’t think he’s a good FPL asset, but unless I WC I have too many other fires to put out first. He at least is nailed on and plays 60 minutes.

Bruno and Mbeumo stuck in my team. Both feel like they should go with how bad United are but neither is worth a hit. And priority has to be to get Haaland in for GW 6.

          Sanchez - Sels
          Cucu - VVD - Konsa - Dorgu - Gud
          Salah - Semenyo - Bruno - Mbeumo - Reijnders
Pedro - Ekitike - Mark Guiu

No WC and the fact that I have 4 chelsea players makes it really hard to do anything. My thought is to wait it out this week and do Salah - Guiu -> Haaland + 4.5/5.0.

          Got 2 FTs.

Any thoughts? Does the plan sound ok for my situation?

              You're a bit stuck there

Ekitike and Bruno out might be better for Haaland.

Ditch Sanchez potentially if the bench talk wasn't just mood music to the other keepers in the Chelsea squad.

The problem is that Sels is looking like a sell too.

Do you have a wildcard? Oh, splurged that early too.

Thanks. I cant just do Bruno + Ekitike for Haaland because of Guiu in my team (:

Technically I could, but I would have to do a sideways transfer for Guiu as well to another non playing 4.5 striker which just seems really bad use of a transfer. Not a big fan of having Salah + Haaland in my team and especially if I have to waste a transfer for nothing to make it happen.

Sels was a typo, I dont have him.

I've had the pair too from the outset. Not only that, I couldn't bring myself to be without Cunha either, after he racked up 7 shots across the Arse and Fulham games. Then he went and got injured early doors against Burnley. ๐Ÿ™

Yanited's unbeaten at home in our last five against Chels, stretching back to the FA Cup during COVID. We've been playing better than our results suggest, and since we didn't have to travel back from Bavaria on Wednesday night, I'd fancy us to win it 2-1, just like we did two seasons ago.

If anyone's going to score, it;s going to be Mbeumo. He's been our best player since Cunha's injury, and he takes set-pieces from the right. We didn't create much until the game was gone at citeh, yet he still could have finished with a hatty. I'd definitely hold onto him, and you just know that the minute you transfer Bruno out, he'll score and assist.

Thanks. You are in the same boat as me, too much belief in United to turn it around this season lol. Bruno seems pretty useless the way Amorim plays him. But as you say he could still score and assist at any point. And if Amorim leaves then whoever comes in are bound to play Bruno as a CAM where he thrives so he could become a good option again quickly. Plenty of reasons not to rush him out with hits but if I was on WC Id pick 0 United assets.

Is Wirtz worth giving one more game against Everton?

Or just pull the Semenyo switch now?

That means Johnson first on the bench as I only have 0.2m itb.

Semenyo seems a much better long term pick than Wirtz so if you dont have Semenyo at some point you will have to do it. Might as well be now.

                Yeah.

Rolling seems a bit lame as I was considering the wildcard this week but likely hit it next week.

Especially if Eze starts ahead of Martenelli again and prospers.

Need to lose Ekititke too but he can have one more week.

I'd rather ditch Johnson but I'd be better rolling that transfer for the sake of first sub.

            Hi all. 1FT 2.2ITB

Probably and easy save to have 2FT for Haaland possibly. But would you BB? Slightly worried on King starting and Maresca comments on Sanchez that he can't play every game.

            Sanchez
            Porro, Munoz, Milenkovic
            Salah, Kudus, Semenyo, Mitoma
            Watkins, Wood, Pedro

I think there's goals in that game.

It's the late KO on Saturday in West London and Fulham are at home.

                Diouf has assist potential.

And the clean sheet odds aren't entirely unfavorable compared to say Man Utd home to Chelsea.

You could see a 1-1 or similar there.

                How the narrative changes overnight.

It's still a squad sacrifice to have both and captain one at that price.

Bottomed: With 1.8m in the bank, what changes would you look at here? Something simple like Kudus > Eze or Xavi?

                Sanchez
                Cucu - Gabriel - Munoz
                Semenyo - Kudus - Reijnders - Gakpo

Anyone would have scored the second, it was a tap in.

The first goal was decent across the team and he zipped it in.

It's uncertain times at Forest, will know more after Gw5.

                      Not for a hit

Man City are on 6 points

If they lose they are 6 behind Arsenal and probably 9 points behind Liverpool.

They need at least a draw to be in the title hunt.

                    My captain options this Gw:

                    1. Haaland
                    2. Wood
                    3. Bruno
                    4. Semenyo

                        Who would you pick?

It's probably between Haaland and Semenyo then if I do that move.

I think Wood will score, even if he gets 75 mins.

Ekitike is just in for the fixture and I don't have Salah.

Probably one of Semenyo or Bruno - midfielder with extra point for goals and no midweek game.

75 mins feels a tad optimistic for Chris Wood assuming he starts

It's good but at this stage I'd save funds to go from Gyok to Isak.

That said, he won't be the main man where everything's goes through him up front at Liverpool. Not to start with.

Fulham clean sheets might drop and I'd avoid WHU completely for now.

                      Looking for a 5.0 midfielder.

Obvious options to me are Dewsberry Hall or Sarr (spurs).

Xhaka worth a cheeky punt? 48 DCs so far.

(My mini-league rival has Sarr though so makes me not want to pick him)

Igor scored 2 goals yesterday, does that mean Wood is a huge risk going forward or at least gw5

Tinkering with my WC6 drafts and realise I'm going to end up with no Liverpool. Very uncomfortable with that - their fixture run is fine and they score the most goals in the league.

Can't fit Salah in with Haaland/Palmer structure, so are there any other relatively nailed assets worth including? VVD but can't justify two 6m defenders (with Gabriel). Are we just going without??

Gakpo the obvious choice for now

Isak or Palmer is probably a choice too for the future

Wirtz the only other one who’s nailed, but hasn’t been amazing thus far… he looked a little better with Isak on the pitch though, then again CL and PL are a bit different

Would you play Kayode, Livramento or Rodon this week? (to go with Romero & Truffert)

                            Thoughts about this:

                            Pickford
                            VVD Murillo Van der Ven
                            Enzo Grealish Wirtz Reijnders
                            Ekitike Haaland Pedro

                            Dubravka Mbeumo Reinildo Guehi

Captain will most likely be Haaland.
Any subs that should be substituted into the starting XI?

Don’t love it tbh. Reijnders v unlikely to have any kind of attacking role Ba Arsenal. Bournemouth could definitely score vs Newcastle. It’s a good week for Rodon (and maybe Dubravka) but those are your 4.0 assets and therefore probably have less points potential than your more expensive ones. I’d wait until Reijnders and Burn have better fixtures

Selection dilemma. Who to bench between Cuca (manu), Porro (bri) or Kudus (bri). Leaning towards Porro but potential DefCon points and Cuca's benching last week has got me spooked. What do we reckon?

Continue with the plan below or just WC in gw6?

                                        GW6: Salah & Mateta —> KDH & Haaland (free) - potential BB/TC?
GW7: Wood —> Gyokores (free - exact funds)
                                        GW8: Kudus & Watkins —> Palmer & Larsen (-4)

                                        Current team: (1FT)

Kinda like the plan but I’m a bit spooked by the “exact funds” thing, players could easily change price. Depends if you want to risk that or not. You’re probably also lacking Arsenal defence by GW8 and their good run will already have started. I’d probably either stick with the plan or WC in GW7 (not 6) if I were you
